Message from Minister of Health and Human Services, FGS
I am pleased to announce the establishment of the Interim National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) under the Ministry of Health, Federal Government of Somalia. This is a vital step to ensure that all medical products, Herbal Medicines, food Supplements, and Medicated cosmetics in our country are safe, effective, and of high quality. For over three decades, Somalia has faced challenges in regulating its pharmaceutical sector, with many medical products entering the market without proper oversight. This has posed serious risks to our people’s health.
The Interim NMRA will now regulate the manufacturing, importation, distribution, and sale of all medical products, protecting our citizens from substandard and counterfeit products and supporting better healthcare in the country, region, and continent.
A Call for Unity and Support
The Interim NMRA's success relies on the collaboration of all—government agencies, healthcare professionals, businesses, civil society,
and international partners.
Together, we can create a healthier, safer, and more prosperous Somalia.
Let us work hand in hand to support the Interim NMRA’s mission for quality, safety, and better health for all.
Thank you.
